ABOUT US

Mission Statement

It is the mission of Champions Rehabilitation to assist our patients through the injury recovery process via state-of-the-art rehabilitation – regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation.

Champions Rehabilitation is also an advocate for our patients and demonstrates this advocacy through involvement in various community organizations that work on behalf of the disabled and injured, through our involvement and participation with the legislative and regulatory process, and through our community educational and information efforts. Champions Rehabilitation also encourages and supports the involvement of our staff in advocacy activities on behalf of our patients.

Champions Rehabilitation, a recognized rehabilitation program, utilizes the bio-psychosocial model to implement individualized treatment programs for patients who are delayed in their recovery.  Our philosophy of treatment includes goals that will allow for optimal outcomes like return to work, detoxification, case closure, and overall functional restoration of the individual patient.

The multidisciplinary team approach is necessary to accomplish these goals.  Therefore, physicians, occupational therapists, psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers, rehabilitation technicians, and various ancillary services are utilized throughout the program.  Interpretation services are also provided for all of our rehabilitation programs.

DISABILITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

IDENTIFYING DELAYED RECOVERY CLIENTS

•1) The Official Disability Guidelines (ODG) are the current medical guidelines in Texas that are utilized to aid in managing medical care for injured workers in Texas.

•2) Delayed recovery is determined by clinical judgement when a patient’s recovery from an injury is delayed longer than normal healing time.

•3) Delayed recovery is typically defined at about 12-16 weeks.

• 15% of injured workers account for 85-90% of workers compensation expenditures in Texas!  (Medical and Indemnity combined)

EARLY INTERVENTION IS KEY

•When a patient is identified to be delayed in their recovery, early intervention is very important.  Further delay has proven to drive up long term costs.

•Most Medial Guidelines throughout the country recommend a psychosocial/ psychological screening at the point at which delayed recovery is identified.

•NOTE:  This psychosocial/ psychological screening is NOT a tool to add additional diagnoses.  This is a tool that is widely recommended to identify “barriers to recovery”.

THE INVOLVED PARTIES

•The identification of injured workers who are delayed in their recovery and the implementation of early intervention is the responsibility of all stakeholders.

•These stakeholders include:

•Treating physician and other medical practitioners

•Insurance carrier

•Employer

•Case managers

•Patient and family involvement

WHAT ARE THE GOALS?

•The primary goals:

•1) Highest quality medical available

•2) Involvement from all stakeholders

•3) Focus on return to work

•4) Cost Containment

•We are all working to keep injured workers from falling into that 15% of those who costs the system to majority of the dollars…
